YASH is over! Thanks to all who participated

April 3, 2016 By Kat

Another successful YASH goes down in the record books. I had a lot of signups to my newsletter – thank you so much for participating in my giveaway. And the winner of the Kindle Fire 7″ and the digital copy of Connected is:

Kelly Zauner

Congratulations Kelly! I hope you enjoy your new Kindle and especially Connected. 🙂

As promised I’m going to be making changes to the website, so if you come back and notice it looks totally different (or if it’s temporarily broken) that would be why.

Thanks again for participating in YASH! Stay tuned – there are more giveaways on the horizon for my newsletter subscribers.

YASH is almost here! Plus some new changes :)

March 28, 2016 By Kat

YASH starts tomorrow! SO psyched, I’m on the Pink Team this year. In case you don’t know what YASH is, it stands for YA Scavenger Hunt, and it’s this amazing fun event to win all kinds of great YA fiction, from indie and traditionally published authors alike! There are nine teams with 20 authors each, and you visit these author websites to find their lucky numbers, and also read about the author they’re hosting. When you visit all the authors on a team and add up all the lucky numbers for that one team, you can enter to win a copy of every print book from all the authors! Even if you don’t win any of the big team prizes, most authors have bonus giveaways as well. Last fall, I won a beautiful print edition of “From Where I Watch You” by Shannon Grogan, which is an excellent creepy stalker read, as well as a cool mini Lego figure.

Remember how I told you changes were coming? Well I wasn’t lying. This year for YASH, I’m giving away a Kindle Fire 7″ with a digital copy of Connected! Check out my site during YASH, March 29th (noon pacific) – April 3rd (noon pacific), to enter my exclusive giveaway.

Other changes are forthcoming – a website redesign, more posts and articles, and more giveaways for newsletter subscribers.

I’m very excited to shake things up! It’s about damn time, as far as I’m concerned. 🙂

As always, let me know what you think – I love comments.

Time for a Change

March 14, 2016 By Kat

Sitting in a hospital room for the fourth day, it’s natural to really take a hard look at your life and think about what’s important to you. Like spending quality time with your kids. Or doing the work you truly love to do.

A good friend sent me this clip recently, of one of his favorite shows, Rick and Morty:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tGL-buZ94Y

And for some reason it resonated with me. Like the universe sent this message to me, in the form of an Adult Swim cartoon clip. God knows stranger things have happened. I try to pay attention when I can. Life is so full of ridiculous distractions.

I apologize for my lack of updates to this blog. Yes, life happens, but I firmly believe we’re in control of our own existences. Writing and reading are very important to me. I’ve been feeling out of sorts lately, and that’s likely a big part of the reason why – I haven’t been doing either. I tend to forget myself at times, getting caught up in the ebb and flow of little things. Focusing on stuff that doesn’t really matter in a futile attempt to get ahead or at least caught up. But it never works. I always end up feeling drained and frustrated. Then in turn, the time I spend with my family isn’t quality time. Instead of being in the moment with them, my mind is somewhere else: either lost in what needs to get done or just stuck in that “off” feeling. I’m unable to experience the wonder and beauty of my children’s playfulness, their inherent ability to always seek out the fun in everything.

So I’m done jumping through hoops. I’m done wasting my energy on irrelevant tasks that don’t add to my quality of life.

I’m getting my shit together.

As always, thank you to my readers and supporters. I hope to come out with some new material soon. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

Connected is a finalist in The Wishing Shelf Awards!

February 21, 2016 By Kat

So excited, I’ll find out if it wins on April 1st (of all days). I know most of you probably don’t know about the Wishing Shelf, but it’s a really cool award for indie authors, run by an indie author out of the UK.

Some of the other titles in my category (#4) look fun too, have to check them out. 🙂

Wish me luck!
