Connected Character Names

June 5, 2015 By Kat

Now that Connected has officially released, I thought I would share some of the background of its creation. The other day I showed my daughter, Rosalind, the book cover. Naturally, she asked the names of each character on the cover. Then she pointed to Roz and said, “I think I like that one the best. She has the same name as me!”

Truth is, I’ve been working on the novel a LONG time. Long before she was born, in fact. And before you look at me strange, no I didn’t name my daughter after one of the characters in my book. That’s kinda weird. I actually named her (and the book character) after the female heroine in my favorite Shakespearean comedy, As You Like It. ๐Ÿ™‚ Tommy is named after my grandfather on my mother’s side, but Em (Emily), I’m not really sure where that name came from. I wanted to choose a popular modern name, almost like a female version of Joe. Also, I was trying desperately to avoid the ever growing trend of stupid character names I’m seeing in all the books I’ve read as of late.

What do you think of the names? Please drop me a line, I’d love to chat. ๐Ÿ™‚

If you haven’t had a chance to pick up your copy of Connected, you can do so at any one of these fine establishments:

Countdown to release day for Connected!!!

May 31, 2015 By Kat

So excited, it’s less than a week now for launch date, still set for 6/3. Little bummed the trailer’s not ready for it, but I’m not sure how much exposure that would’ve been anyway – youtube’s pretty crowded these days, and I doubt it would’ve made much competition against the latest kitty video. My publisher lined up some blog tours, hopefully a couple of reviews will be posted… I think I’m in a good place.

I guess what’s got me more nervous than anything is how it will be received. Will people get it, meaning click with it and really enjoy it? Will they understand the underlying message I was trying to convey? Or will it get crucified because it’s not the same as everything else out there, or not different enough? I get that it’s all subjective, and I’ll likely see a bit of both, which I’m okay with. Just as long as I get a couple of people who click with it, I’ll be happy.

It may not be groundbreaking, but it’s my story, one I’ve taken years to really polish. I’m ecstatic to finally be able to share it with the world, and change from being a writer to being an author. ๐Ÿ™‚

Review of Beguiling Trickery by Tempest C. Avery

May 31, 2015 By Kat

This book was so much fun! Itโ€™s hard not to love a story about a hunky Norse god and cool psychic powers. The storyline was fresh, the characters rich, and the action was spot on. I particularly enjoyed the romantic scenes – Tempest has a great skill in describing the subtle aspects and motions of her characters. It was easy to connect with her characters, especially Kenna, the main protagonist. I loved how wonderfully flawed she was – her very relatable struggle to understand herself and come to terms with who she is.

At times I felt the internal monologue slowed the plot down; I wouldโ€™ve preferred a few less backstory flashbacks. Also, there were quite a few grammatical errors I caught which brought me out, albeit temporarily, of the vivid and exciting story sheโ€™s telling.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to my friends. Iโ€™ll definitely be checking out the next book in this series.
