Why I’m writing the Modified Series

I know some of you may be wondering why I’ve ventured into adult paranormal, after focusing on YA initially. The truth is, adult fiction was my first love to read, and it was downright freeing to be able to curse and write about more adult topics, without worrying about unspoken YA restrictions. Is this novelette filled with super powers? Yes. I still love those–it’s so much fun to write about what it would be like to fry someone’s brain with a mere thought. Is this series much darker than the Connected series? Absolutely. I actually got the idea for Modified when I thought about taking the villain’s power from Connected and giving it to the protagonist. I wouldn’t call Kate an anti-hero exactly, but she certainly leans towards it. Are there more installments planned? Yep, one per month, if the talented cover artist Jasper Yu can keep up with that pace. He’s a good two thirds of the way through the cover for Volume 2, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

Imminence is Live!

Happy Book Birthday for Imminence, finally released to the world! It’s been a little over 2 years since the first book in the series, Connected, but I’m hoping you’ll find it was well worth the wait. 🙂 Imminence is a young adult paranormal romance novel, and it picks up where Connected left off, after Em receives the mysterious phone call from her father. Filled with super powers, a new villain, and a new romance, you’ll love this second exciting installment in the Connected series!

I really love how this book turned out – it was a long writing and editing journey, but as they say, with practice everything gets easier. That is to say, it won’t be another two years before book three, the final installment in the Connected series. Hoping to write most of it during Nanowrimo this year.

I know I mentioned in the cover art post that it’s regular unleaded adult paranormal, but I just want to remind you of that again, since I’m more known as a YA author. Should be pretty obvious from the cover art that it’s not YA, but hey, you never know what people are thinking (which is why I wrote a disclaimer on the product page ><). I’m working with the cover artist, Jasper Yu, on the next installment, which I plan to release next month, aptly named Modified Volume 2.

I’m also working on a YA sci-fi short story that I hope will be included in an anthology AAYAA (the most awesome young adult Facebook group ever) is doing, like the previous one I did for That Moment When. That anthology is still free on Amazon, and in it you can read my horror short, “More Than a Crush.” Click here to check it out.

Cover Reveal for my New Adult Paranormal Series, Modified

I’m so excited to share with you the cover for my new paranormal series, Modified. Before I show you the beautiful cover, I want to tell you a little about the series first. Set in New Jersey in the near future, Modified is the tale of a snarky DBA who gets kidnapped and altered, which gives her the power to read minds. Filled with fun characters, cool super powers, lots of profanity, a few deaths, and a little bit of sex, Modified is funny and geeky and sexy. It is a departure from the YA books I’ve written for sure, but readers of the Connected series will recognize the super powers and humor. I actually came up with the idea thinking about the antagonist from Connected, and wondering what it would be like for the protagonist to have that power. Writing it has been a labor of love for me – YA has a lot of restrictions on what you can and can’t write. It was nice to get my Jersey on and write a character that was deliciously flawed yet still good deep down. And Viola was just so much fun to write!

Modified is novelette length, and I plan to release one volume each month. If all goes well, I’ll release Modified tomorrow at the price point of .99 cents. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it. 🙂

Imminence Cover Reveal!!!

I’ve been waiting for awhile to share this incredible cover with you, for the second book in Connected, my young adult paranormal romance series. It’s called Imminence, and I’m in love with this cover! It took awhile, lot of going back and forth with the cover artist, the talented Taria Reed. The second installment of Connected finds Em encountering her worst nightmare, the man who’s haunted her dreams ever since he kidnapped her 10 years ago – her father. Taria was able to brilliantly capture the nightmare feel I was looking for, as well as little details readers will remember from Connected, like the necklace Tommy gave to Em.

Imminence is due for release in early August. I don’t have an exact date yet – I’m shooting for August 1st, but I’m still working with my editor to get it all polished up and ready for reading consumption.

Thank you to all my readers – you’ve been patiently awaiting this sequel for a couple of years. I hope you will find it was worth the wait. 🙂
